95th Anniversary of the Battle of Dytiatyn

September 19, 2015

On September 19, 2015 at 12:00 on the Dytiatyn fields during the Holy Mass, presided over by Bishop Marian Buczek, the ceremonial unveiling and consecration of the first part of the War Cemetery erected on the graves of Polish Soldiers who fought against the Soviets took place. Thanks to the involvement of the Franciscans with the parish priest Fr. Grzegorz Cymbała from the nearby monastery in Bołszowce, with the great dedication to saving the heroes of this land from oblivion of Mrs. Wiesława Holik, with the financial support of the Council for the Protection of Struggle and Martyrdom Sites, it was possible to partially rebuild the destroyed place of remembrance.

The ceremony was attended by representatives of the President and the Government of the Republic of Poland, Members of Parliament and Senators, representatives of the Ministry of Culture and National Heritage, the Polish Army Guard of Honour, delegations of the Fire Departments and representatives of the authorities and local governments from Ukraine, Roman Catholic, Greek Catholic and Orthodox clergy, military chaplains, borderland organisations and patriotic movements, students, scouts and many other people from Poland and Ukraine.

The inhabitants of Dytiatyn, as always, welcomed the arriving guests with kindness and, together with their parish priest, also took part in the celebrations.

After the Mass, wreaths and bouquets of flowers were laid under the tombstones with a cross.
